NEW WAR FILM AMERICAN PARTICIPATION Endorsed by navy officials as the first authentic film history of the American Navy’s participation in the World War, “Convoy.” First National’s epic of the navy, will be released next month. Robert Kane, director of the film, in announcing its release, says that “Convoy” is the first film record of the role played by the American Navy in the recent conflict. Actual engagements between British and American battleships and the German Grand Fleet are highlights of the production. “The navy built a bridge of ships across the Atlantic.” says Kane, “and 2,000,000 men were marched across it without a single casualty. One of the greatest naval accomplishments of all time. “The one great battle between American naval forces and the German fleet —the battle of the North Sea—as well as other achievements of the navy are all to be shown in ‘Convoy,’ by means of official films gathered from France, Germany, England and the United States. It is a literal film history of the world war navies. “As a romantic thesis, John Tainter Foot’s short story. The Song of the Dragon,’ was chosen, dealing with a girl's uncovering of communication methods between the German secret service agents in America during the war. and the subsequent arrests made at the expense of her reputation and the love of her sweetheart.” A brilliant “five-star” cast was secured for the film, including Dorothy Mackaill. Lowell Sherman Buster Collier, Lawrence Gray and lan Keith.
