An Auckland "Film Star”

(WRITTEN FOR THE SUN BY

WINIFRED TENNANT).)

CULTAN, the Great Dane here pickJ tured with his master, Mr. Dudley Bushby, has been a loyal Aucklander for over a year. In the days of his puppyhood he was a film star and roamed the English woods. Sultan

has taken part in several British film productions. Even now he bears the stamp of his e arlv training and although of gigantic build has a wonderfully docile nature. Out of his mild, half human eyes looks the essence of all that is

- charitable and friendly. Sultan, being a king of his kind, - sleeps on a couch and, in company, l portentously sits in an armchair lisl tening to the conversation and suml ming up the guests. A kennel for such

as he? Preposterous! His coat is as fine as silk, striped like that of a tiger, and he turns the scales at eleven stone. The ex-film star is not above taking a friendly interest in dogs of lessee de-

gree and has as a boon companion a wistful-eyed undersized wire-haired terrier whom he sedately escorts over street crossings as they “do the town.” Sultan’s good breeding shows in his refusal to take part in vulgar street brawls. He is a mighty tren cherman and accounts daily for six pounds of meat. His favourite diet, however, is cake well studded with fruit. At the sight of an afternoon tea tray he registers all the poignant interest that won him his position on the films— and he seldom fails in the appeal. Sultan recently saved the life of his master by seizing him in his powerful jaws and whisking him out of danger when he had slipped on a muddy road way in the track of a swiftly-moving car.
