LONDON TO ROME

Aeronautical experts in Rome are examining the possibilities of a, new airplane in which it is hoped to cover the jaurney from Rome to London in one hour, and from Rome to New York in six hours. These phenomenal speeds would be attained by flying the machine at an altitude of 26,000 feet, where the atmosphere is so rarefied that there would be little air resistance. The principle which is being worked upon is that one mid t<> have been applied by the Germans in the development of the big Bertha long-distance gun with which they bombarded Paris. The chief difficulty to be surmounted is the obvious one of the provision of ab* at normal pressure for the pilot and functioning of the engines.—Router.
