FINAL GALLOPS THE MANAWATU MEETING Press Association PALMERSTON NORTH, To-day. There were improved conditions this morning at Awapuni for the final gallops. the wind having dried the tracks considerably. The majority of horses were exercised on the outside of the course proper, the trestles being out some 30ft. There is every prospect of the course being in excellent order tomorrow. Brigadier Bill and Omahu were sent over five fences, both jumping faultlessly. Brigadier Bill gave a good display, accounting for his companion by four or five lengths at the finish. Inferno, alone, gave an indifferent display over the sticks. Orasone and Gaillard left half a mile behind in 54sec., Orazone holding the advantage at the post. Santonio and Sottano were sent over seven furlongs. Santonio took the lead early and ran home easily with a five-lengths advantage. Mister Gamp and Catcall were companions over six furlongs, the former having the measure of his companion. Crown Area and Royal Land strode over four furlongs. Cohesion, Xovar and another were associated in a working gallop. Cohesion making a good impression. Yertigern and True Blood left four furlongs behind in 55sec. Yertigern had a break at the jump-out. although True Blood was on terms at the straight entrance, but Yertigern came away again. Comet. Ardath and Maidos trotted round, and then carried out a strong working gallop. Lady Comet going best. Kalos and Grand National ran six furlongs in lmin. 26see.. and Swift Flight and Town Bird three furlongs in 40sec. Mandarine held the advantage over Wild Pigeon at the end of half a mile. Rapine ran a mile in lmin. the first half in 53sec. Gascony and Great Charter covered half a mile in 53sec.. and the latter held the advantage at the post, but Gascony finished stronger. DOMINION ROAD SOCIAL CLUB .

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR The second annual meeting of the Dominion Road Men’s Social Club was held in the Methodist School Hall, Dominion Road, last evening. The president, Mr. R. J. Mills, occupied the chair. The annual report shows that the club has had a very successful year. There are now 56 on the club roll. The balance sheet reveals a substantial sum of cash in hand. Seventeen gatherings, including seven to which ladies were invited, were held during last winter. These comprised lectures, debates, a mock trial and musical and elocutionary evenings. A picnic was held on Labour Day at Titirangi, and the annual banquet and several cricket matches were part of the activities of the club.
