PAPATOETOE AFFAIRS
TOWN BOARD MEETING The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board was held on Wednesday, April 20. Present: Mr. A. W. Hall, chairman, Messrs. P. Pennell, E. S. Sorensen, G. Foster, W. J. Nicholson, AY. Brown and J. Franklin. It was decided to ask the Telegraph Department, when replacing poles, to see that they are placed on the side of footpaths. Mr. Davis complained that the construction of the Great South Road had left a high step into his shop and the matter was left to the engineer. A petition asking for the construction of a footpath on Birdwood Avenue was deferred. More metal is to be put on Nettlingham’s Road and work will be resumed on McGowan’s Road shortly. Good progress is being made with Grutt’s Road. Arrangements have been made with the contractors for the board’s workmen to complete footpaths on Great South Road. A special meeting is to be held on April 28 to frame by-laws prohibiting the driving of stock on Great South Road and regulating traffic. The board will also consider the suggestion that Manurewa be included in the area served by the traffic inspector, but the opinion AA T as expressed that the. district covered was large enough at present. The engineer was instructed to classify roads in order that by-laws may be framed to control heavy traffic. Accounts amounting to £ISS 13s Sd were passed for payment.
