DEATHS AT WANGANUI

WELL-KNOWN RESIDENTS (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, To-day The death occurred yesterday of Mr. A. E. Cowper, a well-known dentist. In his young days, when attending the Wanganui College, he was recognised as a fine athlete and established quite a number of records. When a student at the Pennsylvania University he rowed No. 7 in the dental section crew. A popular businessman, Air. Sam Kernohan also passed away last night. He was a member of the Thirteenth Reinforcements, and took an active part in all work for the good of the district. The unexpected death of Ilatana’s married daughter, which occurred yesterday, has caused great grief among the followers of Ratana, who are regular residents of the pah, and also among the large number of visitors who have assembled for the Easter gathering. Deceased had been ailing for a fortnight.
