There is abundant evidence of a general feeling of insecurity and concern at the present trend of events. With the interest of the Borough as a whole at heart, we feel it our duty to offer ourselves as candidates for the Council, and we unite under the name of—“THE INDEPENDENT PROGRESSIVE TICKET” If elected our policy will be:— * (1) To defend the freedom of the highways and ferry landings, and oppose monopoly by any concern; (2) On that basis, to secure frequent, convenient and comfortable communication with all ferries crossing the harbour; (3) To oppose the present Council’s scheme of monopoly and municipalisation of transport as a dangerous gamble with the funds and vital interests of the Borough; (4) To scrutinise carefully all loan commitments and expenditure, and Borough finance generally, with a view to economy and drastic administration reform; (5) To carry out a progressive works policy, including filling up the gaps in concrete roads at Milford, Belmont, and Bayswater, provision of adequate water reticulation, and drainage; (6) To systematise all maintenance work, more especially with a view to improvement of the side streets; (7) To press insistently upon the North Shore Water Board the necessity of providing an adequate and permanent water supply apart from the Lake, so as to release the Lake basin for settlement and prevent further injustice to the propertyholders interested there As the foregoing policy, in the main, is consistent with that of CR. JULIUS WILLIAMSON, candidate for the Mayoralty, we cordially support him for that office. JOHN ERNEST CLOSE. FRANK HAWES. JAMES WILLIAM HAYDEN. GUY CAMERON MALCOLM. ARCHIBALD MORRIS SEAMAN.
