Warmth — Not Affection!
Like all their specie*, love birds are shy and retiring. preferring their own company to that of strangers. keep close together , chatter caressing little messages to each other and behave generally as all lovers do. Naturalists, however, tell us that, love birds are delicate, and perch close together for the sake of warmth. The apparent mutual affection, conveyed by the name, is quite without foundation. A pair of love birds , the first- to arrive in New Zealand. are among the most interesting denizens of the Auckland Zoological Park. They have not yet been exhibited to the public as they got busy immediately on arrival from their home in Nyanza. and began to build a nest in a coco-nut thoughtfully provided by Mr. T. Aldridge, Superintendent of the zoo. The love bird is a pretty variety of small parrot. Those at the zoo have brilliant green plumage, with black heads and touches of other colour.
