PRAWNS FOR AUCKLAND

Fresh-water prawns, deemed a great delicacy in Samoa, may be plentiful in Auckland streams one of these years. About 60 of them were obtained from the Samoan Government last year and released on Mr. Alex. Mackinnon’s property at Rotowaro. Reporting to the meeting of the Acclimatisation Society last evening, Mr. Mackinnon said that he had seen four of the prawns on one occasion and they had grown considerably. The prawn was strictly of nocturnal habits and consequently it was not likely that they would be seen much. There was a reasonable chance that they would be a Success. The male of this variety grows to 15 inches and the female to nine inches in length.
