A RECORD
ELECTION NOMINATIONS SIXTY-ONE WOULD-BE COUNCILLORS Activities of the citizens’ election committee, Labour party, unemployed and several other organisations have resulted in a record number of candidates for the Auckland City Council elections. Nominations closed with the returning officer (Mr. P. F. Notley) at noon to-day, and the totals showed 4 candidates for the mayoralty and no fewer than 61 for the City Council’s 21 seats. The record for the City Council previously was 50.
The last nomination was handed in a minute before noon, the candidate representing the unemployed. The names of the candidates are:

WHO’S WHO IN THE CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE The Citizens’ Progressive Election Committee has issued the following reply to a statement from Mr. Baildon during his mayoralty campaign last evening, to the effect that he was unaware of who constituted the committee. his exact expression in reply to a question as to who the committee were being “Search me.” The Citizens’ Committee is open to receive any reputable citizen as a member, and the fact that it is by no means an organisation formed by one interest, is best shown by quoting the names of the bodies which appointed representatives to act on the committee.
