HANDY TROUT STREAM
GOOD FLY-FISHING It is not generally known that within twelve miles of Auckland city there is a stream which the Auckland Acclimatisation Society some years ago stocked with brown and rainbow trout. Auckland possesses manifold attractions in the way of sport and sea-water fishing, but facilities for fresh-water angling close to the city are but few. In an effort to remedy this defect the Henderson stream was stocked by the society. The firsn have made good progress, and although net of Taupo dimensions, are now providing good fly-fishing, particularly in the upper reaches where bush-clad banks add considerable charm to the sport. The society is hopeful of getting permission from the Auckland City Council to place trout in the Xihotupu and Waitakere reservoirs, but so far the council has not viewed the proposals with any outward show of enthusiasm.
