WHO SAID WOLF?
THE ALSATIANS COME TO AUCKLAND Folks, meet Rexwolf Ericksohn Von Starkeumark, of Grey Iynn, who is, despite liis name, a true New Zealander. He is not being rude intentionally, but he cannot help remembering that a relation of his is a privileged vassal to the Prince of Wales, and that his grandsire won 40 first prizes. You can see by his deliberate pose that he has ambitions to become a moving picture star, like Rin-Tin-Tin, who is quite possibly a distant relative. Rex is one of probably the first litter of Alsatian wolfhounds to be bred in Auckland. Both his parents were
imported. This breed of hound, which is almost a wolf, has been the fashionable dog in England for a few years, though there have been instances where wolf traits have come to the surface, to the owner’s cost. Used as police dogs on the Continent for years, the Alsatian has lately been adopted by the London police in preference to the old faithful, the Airedale. The owner of Rex, Mr. F. KayStratton, says that at three months the pup has more brains than a mature dog of -three years. When he plays with other dogs, Rex always flies at the throat. Instinct is pretty strong in him.
