ELECTIONEERING
A FRANK POLITICIAN DR. THACKER OUTLINES PLANS (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. After a period of quiescence, Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, one time Liberal member for Christchurch East, is again beginning to talk. W r hen he began an address to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday on the facilities and lack of facilities of the port of Lyttelton, Captain H. Monro gazed at him and then rather apprehensively at the clock. “You needn’t look at the clock,” said the doctor. “The luncheon is not until one o’clock.” “Surely you’re not going to talk till then,’’ retorted Captain Monro. „ “I’m liable to do all sorts of thingsreturned the doctor. “I’m speaking h 1 this way, Mr. Chairman, because we are going to have an election.” Through the roar of laughter that followed, Dr. Thacker was heard to announce that he had been asked J® stand for the Christchurch Chy Council. He was considering that. H® had been asked to stand for the North Canterbury Hospital Board also, and » he were elected to that board t° e “Tory element” on it would be “shaken up.”
