SCHOOL ESSAYS
ANZAC DAY PRIZES A PUKEKOHE SUGGESTION (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, To-day. The Pukekohe returned soldiers have been active for some time in connection with inaugurating a fund for the purpose of providing prizes for school childrens’ essays on the meaning of Anzac Day. Already the sum of £6O has been raised, and it is confidentlv expected that in the near future the figure of £IOO will be attained. It is proposed to invest the money, and from the interest derived therefrom to offer annually a prize of £2 2s lor th% best essay received from the pupils of Franklin primary schools, £1 Is from the Pukekohe Technical High School, and 10s for each of the primary schools for first second, and third prizes. The committee has requested the headmasters of the Pukekohe and Puni primary schools, Messrs. E. F. Small and Rounsborough respectively, to formulate the terms of the competition, and to suggest judges. Messrs. G. T. Parvin and J. P. Rae have been appointed as the temporary trustees of the fund.
