INTOXICATED CARRIER
A DANGER TO PUBLIC STIFF FINE INFLICTED (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. “I don’t think two drinks at Ohaupo and two at Hamilton would put you in such a state as to cause you to act as you did,” remarked Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., to-day when fining a Kihikihi carrier, Claude James Coutts, £lO, and suspending his driver’s licence for 12 months, for being drunk while in charge of a motor lorry. Defendant pleaded “guilty.” The police stated that he collided with a taxi-car at Frankton and later signed an admission of intoxication. The magistrate stressed the seriousness of the offence, saying accused was a great danger to the public. He was not prepared to take the responsibility of allowing defendant to continue to drive.
