WELLINGTON FINANCE
REVIEW BY MAYOR POSITION VERY SATISFACTORY (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The city finances have been rethe mayor, who said the gross surplus for the year would be £38,219. That, however, was made possible by the balance of £13,466 brought forward from last year, and the matter of £20,000 borrowed from the electric lighting department in 1925 for general uses. With these amounts accounted for the net surplus for the vear 1926-27 over expenditure was £4,753. Mr. Norwood said this was considered excellent seeing that no increase in rates had resulted so far as the council was concerned.
