A Strong Club. —The Manukau Rovers are showing fine form at practice. This club will have seven teams in the field during the season.

Automatic Phones. Stratford changed over to the automatic telephone exchange on Saturday night. The exchange is all of British manufacture.

Easy Victory. —Hamilton secured a comfortable win over Rukuhia in the lawn tennis competitions at Hamilton on Saturday, winning by 154 games to 94, and taking 19 sets to 5.

Petrol Prices Reduced. —A general reduction in the price of petrol of 2d a gallon is announced as effective from to-day. The decrease is due to the success of bulk development, and is in line with the world reduction now being made. —"Wellington J?.A. message.

Caught in Time. —Securing a smart get-away at 7.20 p.m. on Saturday evening, the Onehunga Fire Brigade, upon a call to a dwelling-house in Hill Street, rapidly put a period to the extension of a somewhat threatening outbreak in the timber work encasing a domestic chimney. Mr. R. Heighway, a member of the local firm of timber merchants, occupies the residence.

Dead Infant Found. —The dead body of a newly-born child was discovered in an Onehunga household. The body was removed to the Auckland city mortuary, and a post mortem examination was ordered in preparation for a coroner’s inquiry.

New Conductor. —Mr. C. Christensen, late conductor of the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Band, has been appointed conductor of the Takapuna Municipal Band, vice Mr. G. De Clifton, who resigned.

Vital Statistics. —The vital statistics for Whangarei last month, as compared with the figures for March, 1926, are: Deaths, 5 (3), marriages, 3 (5), and births, 36 (35). Figures for the quarter ending March 31, with the first quarter of 1926 in parentheses, are: Deaths, 16 (13): marriages, 22 (22); and births, 96 (88).

Fullers’ New Theatre. —ln connection with the building of the big new theatre in Queen Street by the Fuller proprietary, it has been stated erroneously that the purchase of the property was made by the Fuller-Hayward Company. The latter is a separate organisation, unconnected with the vaudeville and theatrical enterprises of John Fuller and Sons, who are building the new theatre. _
