HIPPODROME
“CARBINE’S HERITAGE” The forerunner of what is hoped to be many New Zealand-made films will be screened at the Hippodrome and Empress Theatres on Wednesday next presented by the Moa Films (N.Z.), Ltd. This company aims at the production of films which will feature the wonderful scenic beauties of New Zealand combined with stories of general interest appertaining to this country, and it must be admitted that there is a wealth of material hitherto untouched at their hand. The initial production, “Carbine’s Heritage,” is now completed, and featuring as it does the deeds of the mighty Carbine, Musket’s doughtiest son, together with scenes of glorious Ellerslie and the last race for the Auckland Cup, is sure of a wide interest. That these expectations will not be wrong is the opinion of those experts who have, through the courtesy of the author and producer, Mr. Edwin Coubrey, been privileged to see a screening of portions of the film. The background of New Zealand scenery, the sporting interest and the remarkably even cast all combine to make a picture that does credit to the New Zealand artists, the country, and the author and producer alike. The cast includes Mile. Lola D’Ormonde, Queenie Graliame, Stuart Douglas, Tom atten, Ted Priston and many others. During the initial screening V. H. Potter, Esq., M.P., will address the audience on New Zealand picture enterprise and Carbine’s heritage.
