MOTORISTS SHOULD INSURE

THIRD-PARTY RISKS Press Association . NEW PLYMOUTH. To-day. The South Taranaki Automobile Association discussed at its monthly meeting the important question of fire insurance. One speaker considered a scheme which had emanated from a South Island local body for a compulsory charge of £ 1 to be mad? for each car to cover a third party risk, could be adopted with success. He was of opinion that even should the amount subscribed be exceeded the Government could be asked to grant a subsidy. Dr. McGhie stressed the proposal that insurance should be made compulsory and on his motion it was unanimously recommended to the general committee, “That a premium of say £1 should be levied on owners of motor vehicles by the Government and collected at the time that the annual license fee is paid, to be used to cover the third party risk.”
