DEARER EGGS PRODUCE OVER SUPPLIED Low pi'ices for most lines of houst produce were registered in the Aiu-L Markets this morning. With guru and farms in the height of the seasgrowers are rushing stocks on to tin market. Glutted markets in the South are also causing Hawke’s Bay and Wellington orchardists to transfer portions of their season's offering to Auckland. FRUIT. Apples, pears, grapes and bananas comprise the greater part of the fruit offerings. A glut of inferior grade apples is being experienced and this is affecting values for the better sorts. Good eating apples were selling at from 5s 6d to 6s 9d a case. Pears are also over supplied and prices range from 3s to 4s for poorer lots to 7s to 8s for special cases. The bottom appears to have fallen out of the grape market and best hothouse were selling at Is Id a lb. Bananas are going to be scarce for Easter. The last consignment from Fiji arrived in an over-ripe condition and many consignors will be heavy losers. Greener better-conditioned cases realised up to 18s. Ripe bananas sold for 8s to 12s a case, oranges are in fair supply and prices remain at late rates. The quality of the Fiji product is not popular at the present moment, but consignment of Californian Navels is expected ex the Niagara on Monday. Stone fruit is now practically all off for the season, and a few varieties of late peaches are all that are offering. Lemons are realising anything from 9s to 12s a case, and figs, for which there is a good demand, are worth 3s 6d to 6s a case. Cape gooseberries are also in good supply d fetch 6d to 7d a lb. - Vegetables. Vegetables for the most part are also over supplied. Tomatoes are arriving from all parts of the North Island, especially Wellington and Hawke’s Bay, and prices have fallen accordingly. Best quality cases realise 4s to ss, inferior 2s 6d to 3s 6d. Most classes of vegetables are over supplied, and prices range as follow: Potatoes, 6s to 8s a cwt; onions, 4s 6d to 6s a sugar bag? kumaras, 3s to 4s a bag; pumpkins, 3s to 4s a sack; citron melons, 4s 6d to 6s a cwt: swedes, Is to Is 9d a bag; lettuces, Is 6d to 4s a case; cauliflowers, 4s to 7s 6d a bag; green peas, 5s to 7s 6d; beans. Is 6d to 2s 6d a sugar bag; pickling onions, ljd to ljd a lb. Dairy Produce. A slight shortage of eggs is registered and prices are harder, some poultryfarmers even being compelled to operate on the market to enable them to fulfil regular contracts. Hen eggs range from 2s 51d to 2s 6£d a dozen; duck eggs from 2s 3d to 2s sd. There is a moderate demand for dairy butter in lib pats and Is to Is 6d a lb is being obtained. Owing to the season of the year the poultry penned is not in the best selling order. Prices this morning were:— Cockerels, Is 7d to 2s 4d; roosters, 2s Sd to 2s lOd; hens, Is 9d to 3s; old ducks, 5s Id.
