MADAME FRANCES ALDA VISIT OF TWO NOTED ARTISTS Two celebrated concert artists, Madame Frances Alda, soprano, and Elfrem Zimbalist, violinist, have been booked to give concerts in Auckland. Madame Alda, a New Zealander, is the wife of Gatti-Cazzaza. manager of the New York Metropolitan Opera House. She was born in Christchurch and after studying there for some years she went to Paris, where she eventually made her debut. After a visit to London she was booked for grand opera work in America, where she was such a success that she soon became the leading soprano of the New Y r ork Metropolitan Opera House. Zimbalist will open his Auckland season at the Town Hall on May 17. He is considered to be one of the three great violinists of the day, ranking with Heifetz and Elman.
