MANY KEEN CONTESTS ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Some interesting bouts were staged at the Auckland University College Hall last evening whlpn the annual boxing championships Were contested in the presence of a large gathering of enthusiasts. The Winners of the various divisions will the Auckland College In tbje inter-varsity contests to be held inj Auckland at Easter. The bouts were of three twominute rounds in all divisions.’ Mr. Ernest Craig acted as referee. Frear and Smyth e, the only entrants in the heavyweight class, provided an interesting exhibition. Heavy blows were exchanged freely throughout the fight which Frear won on a knock-out in the * last round, bj’’ a powerful right to the heart. Smythe commenced well with hard hitting, but appeared to tire quickly. The final of the feather-weight was also decided on a knock-out. The finalists, Stubbs and Martin, were evenly matched and both appeared fresh. . Some bright boxing was provided by the pair in the first session, but in the second round Martin went down for eight and soon afterwards Stubbs landed a similar blow which terminated the fight. j

The welter-weight final between Tunks and Jenkins was the most evenly contested boqt in the championships. An extra round was ordered before Jenkins was awarded the match. * . . . In the final of the middle-weight section Willis-had an easy victory over Wills, who tired rapidly and was adjudged the winner during the filial round. * The light-weight between Henderson and Hall proved a very even cont 'test.
