DEATH CF MR. J. S. LYONE
SHOCK TO STRATFORD Great Popularity In Sporting Circles. SUDDEN ILLNESS. A severe shock to the sporting and business community of Stratford was the announcement of the death of Mr James Spence Lyons at his home this morning. Mr. Lyons, who was 50 years of age, took ill suddenly last night. Mr Lyons, who was a well-known dental surgeon, was considered a
valued friend by all with whom he came in contact, and his pleasant personality served to make him one of Stratford’s most-loved figures. A tribute to the character of Mr. Lyons was paid by an officer of the Stratford Golf Club this morning. “The death of Mr Lyons, with his genial personality, his ever-ready help and his happy manner towards fellowmembers, will leave a great gap,” he said.” In his eager endeavours to assist every member of the club, he made many friends, and future functions at the Stratford Golf Club will lack to some degree the cheeriness which the presence of Mr. Lyons seemed to infuse.” Similar deep regret was expressed by members of the Stratford Bowling Club. Mr. Lyons came to Stratford some 25 years ago. He was a past president of the Stratford Bowling Club, of which he was champion for some years; he was a member of the Stratford Golf Club and a steward of the Stratford Racing Club. He was also a past vice-president of the Stratford Club. He is survived by his wife (formerly a Miss Hodgins), three daughters (Misses Molly, Myra and Patricia Lyons), and two sons (Messrs. Spence Lyons, Wellington, and Owen Lyons).
