HE SAW THE FIRE.
But He Could Not Operate The Bell. MELODRAMA IN FENTON STREET A passer-by saw a chimney on fire in Fenton Street last n|ght, so he hurried to the fire station./[( He was unable to manipulate the bell, and this probably saved the householder from a larger biil than the one he will get. By the time the fireman, anxious to save women or children or anything else, arrived at the house, the fire had burned itself out and the occupiers looked askance at his operations, which resembled a gambler playing "two-up." All the fireman received from the duty call of the passer-by was a singed arm and hand, and the householder (the pleasure is his) will get a bill.
