BIBLE CLASS WELCOME

REV. JOHN PATERSON. The Rev. John Paterson' was wel-* ccmed by the Presbyterian Bible class members from Stratford, Nga j ere, Denbigh Road, Toko and New? Plymouth, at Stratford, last night. , Mr Bruce, president of the Tara-< naki district committee of Bible classes, in welcoming Mr Paterson; hoped he would find co-operation be j tween the committee and the Stratford classes. \ I Knowing the great reputation of Mr Paterson they wore grateful to have him with them, said Dr. W. P. P. Gor-> don, who outlined the work of the Bible class, stressing its connection with the church and its obligation to( it. Dr. Gordon suggested an annual gathering of the classes to be addressed by Mr Paterson. Both he and Mrs Paterson were infull sympathy with the Bible classi movement and had always been close-* ly connected with it, said Mr Pater-> fon. He considered ft was essentialfor the minister to lead the Bible classes and to train them as early' as possible in The Christian faith. He would insist he should have control of the junior Bible class group. It was his duty to do so ag It made the minister the key l 6? church work. The minister was best fitted to guide the children at their most"impressionable age. ' "' ( Mr Paterson reviewed the strength' of (he Bible classes at. Wanganui; where annual musical and elocutionrry competitions were held by the classes. No one should be ashamed of proclaiming himself as a Christian; cr as a Bible class member. If sports, clubs were well known in their deeds rurely Bible classes should be promi-> Lent in thj district.
