CYCLONE AT TE KIRI
HOUSE DEMOLISHED. Occupants Suffer No Injury. COWSHEDS DESTROYED. erii -'i 5 brie .: id l3dJ.'i 1 Leaving in its wake a trail of r damaged and unroofed buildings, unrooted trees and broken fences, a cyclone swept to the coast from Te Kiri at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday, dispossessing a Te Kiri family of their home. The unfortunate losers were Mr. and Mrs R. Gatenby, whose home was lifted by the wind demon and completely demolished. The cyclone was preceded by a hailstorm, the severest ever experienced in the district. Everywhere, windows and fences are reported to have been smashed. A cowshed, owned by Mr. P. Watson, was completely destroyed, i *and Mr. Sam Beere's cowshed was scattered over the paddocks. Mr. Gatenby, whose cowshed was also destroyed, marvels that he and Mrs. Gatenby escaped from their dwelling unhurt. He believes that he was sucked' > through Uhe chimney panel in the • roof. Both he and Mrs Gatenby were in the kitchen when the storm swept on to them. Their furniture and other effects were broken and whirled away into the a?r, pieces being picked up as far as a quarter of a mile from the residence. Mr and Mrs Gatenby are at present being accommodated by Mrs Gatenby's father, Mr W. Parkes. Mr Parkes' property also suffered, the roof of a new cowshed being torn off by the fury of the cyclone.
