BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE
AUSTRALIAN AT CHATEAU Wins N.Z.’s Men’s Slalom Race. STRATFORD SKi-ERS. a-.-Press Association—Copyright. The Chateau, August 28. The New Zealand men’s and women’s slalom championships W’ere held on a course to the west of Scoria Flat, Mount Ruapehu, to-day. In spite of exceedingly thick weather it was deemed wise to decide the races owing to the numerous postponements. Snow fell practically throughout and visibility was very bad. The Australian visitors were victorious in both events. T. W. Mitchell, winner of the men’s event, had won the New i Zealand slalom championship twice previously and gave a brilliant performance in making two descents of the difficult course at great speed without a fall.
• Miss D. Tickle, women’s slalom champion of Australia, hurt her back in a fall in the first run and withdrew. She will probably be able to compete in the inter-Dominion event. The results are:—
