APPEAL LODGED.

Clifton-OM Boys Match Echo PENALTY TRY. Advice of an application by the Clifton Rugby Club to lodge an appeal against the decision of the referee, Mr. L. Better, in awarding a penalty try to Now Plymouth Old Boys in Its match against Clifton at New Plymouth last Saturday, has been given by the Taranaki Rugby Union to the Taranaki Rugby Referees’ Association. Old Boys, who had not previously won a game this season, beat Clifton, one of the three top teams (hen, by 14 points to 13. The Union asked for a statement of the referee’s case so that the ap- * peal could be considered by the management committee of the Union, and all the information forwarded to the appeal council for decision if necessary.

In a statement to the Union, Clifton claimed that the try was awarded without the referee’s pointing out any particular player or the cause of the trouble.
