P.O. Savings Bank Accounts Have £52,916,-352' Credit.

Press Association —Copyright. Dunedin, July IS. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, stated to-day that for the year ended March Post Office Savings Bank deposits exceeded withdrawals by £2,086,179. Interest credited to depositors ' was £1,406,459, and the balance at credit was £52,916,352, an increase of £3,492.638 over that in the previous. year. For April and May deposits exceeded withdrawals by £295,000 and £328,000 respectively. In answer to a question the Minister said it was unlikely the Government woidd authorise a higher interest rate to depositors.
