SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Finances Of Stratford Bowling Club Sound INTERFERENCE OF WEATHER. A report of a most successful season, both financially and socially, will be presented to the thirty-sixth annua! meeting of the Stratford Bowling Club. The weather interfered to some degree in the arrangements for matches, but in spite of this the season was one for extreme gratification. On the seasons' working, after providing for an unusually heavy depreciation on plant and property, the financial repot t showed a credit of £24/18/1. In a large measure the solid position of the finances was due to the untiring efforts of the social committee. "The division of the club into two sections for shield competitions was again a popular move," states the report. "It may have slightly reduced the strength of the teams, but practically evey player was required t° fill the positions. The number of playing members has increased considerably during the season, and the increasing popularity of the club is apparent. Prospects appear very bright. "The club was well represented at the various tournaments throughout the season, and met with a fair measure of success. The club's oneday tournament, held on February 15, was an outstanding success. Thirtysix rinks from all parts of the province competed, the club afterwards receiving many expressions of appreciation from bowlers who participated. Such gatherings tend to cement good-fellowship among clubs, and we should budget for at least one each season. "Through the generosity of many members with cash and labour, a new green of five rinks was laid down and promises to be in good playing condition when the new season opens. Having the two greens will no doubt reduce considerably the anxiety and labour of our green warden and caretaker. The best thanks are due to our green warden (Mr. W. Harris) for the laying-out and supervising the making of the green, and he is to be congratulated for the successful completion of the job. "During the year club competitions wc-re won as follows: —Senior championship, Mr W. Harris; B Championship, Mr H. S. Sutton; Junior Championship, Mr. Beal; Higgs Cup, Mr W. G. Liddell; Wilson Cup, Mr H. S. Sutton; handicap pairs, W. Harris and S. M. Porritt; Easter pairs, W. Eoyd and P. Jones."
