CABLE HEADQUARTERS

o NO HOPE OF TRANSFER. Press Association —Copyright. Wellington, May 3. There docs not seem much prospect of the cable service headquarters being transferred from Auckland to Wellington, according to a statement made yesterday by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, who said the Government contemplated no action in the matter. The Minister explained that the cable company originally had two cable services, one terminating at Wellington and the other at Auckland. The company was losing money on both and decided to do away with the Wellington station and keep that at Auckland in operation. To make any transfer would cost £200.000, and in view of the losses sustained by the company there was no possibility of that taking place.
