TRADE WAR.

JAPAN AND AUSTRALIA. Press Association—Copyright. Tokio, May 2. An extraordinary session of the Tariff Commission to-day decided to consider measures against Australian wool and wheat if the Japanese-Australian tariff situation is further aggravated. Exoerts reported that the Japanese-Australian trade imbroglio was fairly serious. According to a London message the Daily Telegraph's Tckio correspondent says that Japan is expected to put a surtax on imports of Australian wool, making it as dear as South African. Business men say that if this occurs Japan is likely to buy from South Africa third of the amount hitherto bought from Australia. Purchases of wool from New Zealand and of wheat from Canada will also be increased.
