EASTER HOLIDAYS.
Attractions For Stratford! Residents. HAWERA TROTS AND KAPONGA RUGBY. The Kaponga seven-a-side football tournament and the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting are likely to be th» two main attractions for the public of Stratford at Easter. In addition to these popular gatherings, there are golf and bowling tournaments in the province, and there are further Rugby events of interest at Eltham, Tariki, and New * Plymouth. At New T Plymouth on Saturday the Stratford United Old Boys’ team w-ill play Star for the Jury Cup, while on the same day at Eltham the home team will try conclusions with Tukapa for the Hutton Cup. Stratford will be represented at the Waitara and Whangamomona hockeytourneys on Monday. Race-meetings further afield than Hawera w'hich will attract enthusiasts are those at Ellers* lie and Fielding.
Night-time attractions include the Old Boys’ ball at New Plymouth—one of the social events of the year—and a number of country dances. Excel-* lent talkie , programmes will be screened at the Stratford theatres, though not on Good Friday. Railway excursion trains will claim their quota. Heavy bookings have been and are still being made at the Stratford station for seats on trains leaving Taranaki before Easter. Last nights’ express to Auckland was packed, and there will be another heavy train to-night. Forty-four bookings were taken at the station for the Auckland express last night, and about 40 joined the train without reserving. Many bookings' have also been lodged for to-night’s express, and for the mail train to Wellington to-day. The majority of people, however, are going north. For one thing, a north--1 ward trip is more feasible in the cora- ! paratively short Easter holidays bej cause travelling is done 'at night in- | stead of during the.day. Late night will be observed at i Stratford to-night, and shops will be j closed on Saturday. The Stratford 'Post Office arrangements have been i published in The Post this Aveek.
