Several speakers asked in v the House of Commons to-day-what the Government's attitude was .regarding Germany's demand for colonies.- .■. - ■ jj Mr. Neville Chamberlain said that as far as he knew, no-pne \ ever- a,sked or suggested that the British Empire should give up any of its colonies. .S.uc.h(,a,jdeina'nd could' not be entertained for a moment.
; As regards the mandated teyitories, they could, not be held by Britain alone. The Government. recognised ■ its obligations ta the mandated territories and would not think of handing them over to any Power, even for the sake of a general settlement, unless it was satisfied the interests .of . the inhabitants were safeguarded. ~-... ■ , Mr. Chamberlain said he believed the, transfer of any mandrHJ territory could be-'accomplished only *■ 'h the assent of the, mandatory Power -jncerned and the League Council.
