WINTER SHOW.

Further Views Ql Correspon I ents. i J (To tiio Editor.) j The residents of Stratford and di ' I trict recently gave over £BOO for ! Winter Show building fund throug j the Queen Carnival. I Mr. Gernhoefcr is aware that ha ] it been known that i( was proposed I | erect a building on the park, lej j I would have been given; and is als i aware that had he, as requested du ling the carnival, stated publicly "Tin j the building would have been ereete j on the Town Hall site, more woul I have been given . i He has stated that those who raise j the funds should have a say in wher I the building should be erected. j Very well, Mr. Gernhoefer! Call ' i meeting of the committees of the tw _ i town queens and hear their views | You will find that the voting in fa\ B I our of spoiling our parks and reducin, 3 j playing-fields is a very small one in jj j deed, now that the views of the Win 3 ! ter Show Association have been mad' Z i known. \ j —ONE OF THE "SPORTS." = :l ■j j Half-holiday Effect. Z i ;! : j (To the Editor.) • | Mr, Percy Thomson is to be con : j gratulated on his stand on behalf o; | i Stratford residents to keep i'urthei ! J buildings off our parks. ; If, as appears to be certain in the | not-far-distant future, a universal Sat j urday holiday or half-holiday is estabj lished, where are our young men and ; women to play their football, soccer, J hockey, etc., during the winter ! months? i The Winter Show committee in their i statement claim as a reason why the i Winter Show building should be erected in Regan Street, that more than , two acres are required and also a need i for expansion.* Thus they will expect I a greater area before long, and I pre- [ sumo the whole of the land in Regan ! Street. : The Winter Show committee surely , do not suggest that the football clubs, ! etc., can stage matches and give the j "gate" to the Winter Show Associa- | tion! If so, who is to pay the mani agement expenses of the clubs? Even 1 with all available gate revenue, the j clubs have to organise dances, etc., to j pay their way. I would suggest that I the Winter Show committee' be conI tent to erect a buliding at the Town j Hall or some other sites, and leave I the playing areas alone. It* they want \ several acres of land on which to j stage their stunts, why not go to the j Showgrounds? ; j Apologising for encroaching on your, j valuable space. j —FOOTBALLER. !

"Faith in Stratford."

(To the Editor.) Mr. Gernhoefer and his committee think'that by getting a petition signed by a large number of people, who are led to believe that if they doift sign the petition there will be no Winter Show here, that he will persuade those councillors who voted against the park site to change their minds. He should appreciate that these

councillors are ratepayers who study

j ratepayers' interests and have more | at stake in Stratford than he has and i therefore, will not change their minds ! It is more than likely that othor coun | cillors will not support them and vote ■ to hold what we have in the way oi j parks and playing-grounds. They at | least have faith in Stratford's future i and will show it if asked to vote again | —CIVIC PRIDE. PARK SITE DEFENDED. (To the Editor). The letters in last night's Post ebout the Winter Show site were not '■cry helpful. It is no'use telling the Winter show committee that ' the Park site should be avoided it possible. The; committee knows that. But where else is it to go? Why waste time talking about the Town Hall sice when everyone knows very well tint it is l practically a swamp, an.l ic would cost 'lie Association far more than i| can afford even to start, laving secure foundations? The buiidrv will only i.r< upy about half an acre <:r the Park, ;ml Stratford has all the sports grounds it 1 eeds. Sports l bodies mkl others should give the Asociatioa a fair go and not try to hinder Ihrni in their very worthy efforts to brin.; money | mto the town. —ONLOOKER.
