SHARK TRAGEDY

Sydney Man's Body Found In Cave. MURDER WAS; : FiRST,THEORY. ~: . ;:ji.M.' blsiljufl; > i Sydney, March 30.../ A shark tragedy which occurred seven days ago was retvealed at dawn to-day, when a party of police recovered portion of the body of a man, lying on a ledge in a cave at Ifie waiter's edge at Harness Creek Point, Kyle Bay, Hurstville. Shocking injuries at first suggested that murder had been committed by) a maniac, and senior detectives wererushed to the almost inaccessible' spot. Examination by two medical experts however, removed all doubt! of the cause of deathThe body is that of Thomas Farrell, 45, a returned soldier, of Chelms-/ -ford street, Botany, who disappeared from a train between Oatley and' Como shortly after 1 a.m. on March 18. • '

The only clues to the man's' identity were a recently half-soled shoe and a) blue and grey sock, removed from the left foot by Detective-Sergeant Mc-> Carthy, of the C. 1.8., who is in charge of the inquiries. ' It was through these that the dei tectives established identity. They have learned that about 11.45 p.m. on March 17. Farrell, who had been un-j employed for six months, left' home 1 with hisi kitbag and an overcoat. His behaviour was thought strange. He said he intended to stop a,t a city hotel, but all trace of him was lost after his conversation with a railway guard.

Douglas Lavers, 15, of Belmore-i road, Hurstville, who had climbed down a 100 feet deep gorge to fish atj tht spot late yesterday, found the re-* mains. He hurried for the police;, who arrived at the spot just as daikness was setting in. ' , ' The head, shoulders, both arms and right leg were missing. There were) extensive lacerations all over the remains.
