The death has occurred of Dame Clara Butt, D.8.E., the famous com tralto. Born at Soutlnvich, Sussex, on Febniary 1, 1873, she was in her 73rd year. She married Kennerley Rumford in 1900 and had one son and one daughter. She was educated at the Royal College of Music and made her debut in the college students’ performance of “Orfeo” at the Lyceum theatre in 1892, before the.late King George V., who was then Prince of Wales.
