SECOND DAY'S EVENTS IDEAL CONDITIONS Fine Weather and Another f Large Crowd DAVISTOCK WINS THE CUP. Won by a length; half a length Time, 1.15 3-5. (Winner trained by J. O. Jones, Blenheim.) Winner from Blenheim. Form proved correct in the Cardiff Stakes, the Blenheim candidate, The Sandwichman, running up to his first day’s form to down the little-fancied Hawera maiden, Kentucky Song, in a battling finish. Golden Rill fought on fairly solidly for third money, while Roy Reed rode the local maiden. Lady Eka, home strongly, just to miss a place. Fast Acre was the early pacemaker, but faded out when the pressure was applied. NGAERE HANDICAP, of £180: second horse £3O and third £lO. Six furlongs. 3- “FRIESLAND. Mr. 0. Also started: 2-3 Invoice 8.6 (Morris), 1-1 Courtega 7.10 (Leach), 6-6 Princess Star 7.4 (Long), 7-7 Bantry 7.0 (Savage). Scratched: The- Ark, Knockout, Tooley Street. Won by three-quartres of a length; H lengths. Time, U 4 2-5. (Winner trained by Owner, Hawera.) - Friesland’s Stylish Win. Having his first start in open company, Friesland scored a stylish win in' the Ngaere Handicap. He was always prominent in the running, and hung on solidly over the business end to stave off a determined challenge from Lucidus, which also finished strongly after making the pace most of the way. Refresher appeared slightly unlucky in meeting trouble at a vital stage of the race. The veteran finished with his usual tenacity. Invoice showed early speed, but appeared to stop very quickly. Courtega did not begin too well from the rails, and missed a place. Bantry put up quite a fair performance to finish, fourth, considering the fairly strong open company opposition. Lucidus showed his usual reliable form and is unlucky not to have won on the Taranaki circuit.

Following an Inquiry into the running of the Ngaere Handicap, the successful northern rider, L. Clifford (who rode five winners on the first day), was suspended for one month for careless riding. Clifford had the mount on Refresher, which was a double winner on the opening day. TARIKI HACK HANDICAP, of £150; second horse £25 and third £ls. Nine furlongs. 2- TUTOR. Mr. W. Scholium’s b g, 4yrs, Chief Ruler —-Graciosa, } 7.12 (Gomm) 1 3- ALCIDES, Mr. L. G. Paul’s bg. 6yrs, Pombal —Adniyra, 8.3 (Wilson) 2 4- SPORTING SONG, Mrs G. M. Won by a nose; a length. Time 1.65 2-5. (Winner trained by H. Goscomb, Bucklaud.) Tutor Home By Nose. In a slashing finish in the Tariki

Hack Handicap. Tutor nosed his way to victory over Alcides, with Sporting Song a length away in third place and Tuahaehe fourth. Tutor scored a deserved win. as his form on the Taranaki circuit has been consistent. Alcides finished solidly and looked an early winner. Sporting Song ran an improved race, but Aotopeen and Lady Zinnia both appeared to have too much use made of them early on. Tutor gave the popular northern sportsman, Mr. Wenzl Scholium, his first win on this year’s Taranaki holiday circuit. STRATFORD CUP. 10-10 DAVISTOCK, 8.5 (Burgess) 1 2-1 TOUT LE MONDE, 9.0 (Morris) 2 5-3 SILK SOX, 7.12 (Eastwood) 3 i Scratched: Refresher, St. Clara.
