MOTHER’S UNUSUAL CLAIM

BOY KILLED WHILE RIDING TO

WORK

Press Association —Copyright Wellington, May 1

Ethel Clausen, as the mother of the deceased Lawrence Clausen, to-day claimed compensation in the Arbitration Court from the Couchman Cycle Co. Ltd., as compensation for the loss sustained lay her as a partial dependent, and £2O funeral expenses, costs of the action and such further relief as the court might deem just. Decision was reserved.

The boy fell under a motor-lorry while cycling to work last June. It was claimed for Mrs. Clausen that because her hoy was riding a vehicle provided by his employer for travelling to and from work she should succeed.

The defence says that as the boy was not required to ride a bicycle, and as he had not reached his place of employment the claim should fail.

Saying that the case was somewhat unusual, Mr. Justice Pago announced that the court would give a written judgment.
