I ■ ■■ *B>st>* NEW ZEALAND ISSUE . i ! I ATTRACTIVE DESIGN FOR JUBIj LEE FLIGHT ACROSS TASMAIM. ! , '' ' i (Special Message.) | Wellington, To-day. A new set of New Zealand air ! mail stamps will be used for the i first time in connection with the King's Silver Jubilee trans-Tas-man flight by the Southern Cross I piloted by Sir Charles K'mgsford i Smith. | j There are three values, namely Id. | 2d. and 6d, and the same design issued ; throughout the series drawn by Mr. J. Berry, Wellington, from suggestions made by the Post and Telegraph Department. • It depicts an interesting blending 01 ancient and modern. The main scene is shown by the lettering on the stamp as- "A New Zealand Air Mail Terminal". A large aeroplane is about to land and there is a smaller one outside a hangar near a motor car. In the distance is a snow capped mountain and a forest on the left. Standing under a cabbage palm a Maori in full war dress is watching this modern innovation. The stamps are reproduced by the intaglio line engraving process from plates prepared by the Commonwealth Government stamp printer. The engraving is particularly fine and iho use of a magnifying glass will reveal additional detais. The printing is being done, by the New Zealand Government printer and the colour of .the penny denomination is the c.rrmfne of the six-penny value of the King George issue. The three-penny air mail stamp is in the purple used for the four-penny

- King George and the six-penny is re- , i produced in the blue of the five-penny > i King George. To enable Australian* 'j to secure souvenir letters of the ' | double flight supplies of the New !■ Zealand Air Mail stamps are being ' i , r .ent to Sydney and Melbourne. j The Air Mail postage to Austra- ' lia is 7d for half an ounce. i
