Arrival at Colombo
i SPLENDID WELCOME TO DUKE ,— i Press Association —Onovrhihf, Colombo, Sept. 20. : I Escorted by dozens of small yachts of ; jthe Colombo Harbour Club, H.M.S. Sus- : ■ sex, carrying the Duke of Gloucester, 1 'steamed into harbour this morning, the ■ j guns of the flagship, H.M.S. Hawkins. ; j and the Italian warship Armando Diaz, ! which were fully dressed, firing the Royal : (salute. Every ship was beflagged. The 1 I jetty was crowded with the civil popu- : j latkm, natives in multi-coloured cos--1 j tumes representing many races and 1 I creeds. ■ I The Duke of Gloucester landed at 10.30 | a.m. and was accorded a vociferous wel- ' \ come. He was received by the Governor, | Sir Reginald Stubbs, and notable people. I He drove in an open car for seven miles j through city streets brilliantly decorated ! and lined with cheering crowds. Later jthe Duke lunched aboard the Hawkins, j playing polo in the afternoon. I The Duke is particularly well. He has escaped prickly heat, although many j others have been affected.
