Jack Williams, a cook aged 23, wajs I found with his throat cut and with a j blood-stained bread knife lying beside the body on the Papakihau station, Pora- ; ngahau, late this afternon. ■ Earlier in the day Williams and an elderly fellow cook, aged 65. whose name is not yet known, allegedly had a quarrel, resulting in a scuffle. The body of Williams was subsequently found in the vvhare. Both men were newcomers to the station and appeared to be on friendly . terms. The police subsequently went to ! Porangahau and arrested an elderly man, > who will be brought to Waipukurau. TRAGEDY IN KITCHEN DISCOVERY OF KNIFE ACCUSED MAN BEFORE COURT Press Asp^'oti^n.—flonvriebt Waipukurau, Today. The fagic happening whereby a cook named Jack Wiliiams, employed at the late Sir George Hunter's Porangahau station lost his life, while visiting fhe Papakihihae station about 30 miles from Waipukurau, occurred about 5.30 yesterday afternoon in the kitchen of the men's quarters. It is understood deceased was in company of another cook, Harry Cape, well employed on the estate of the late Paul Hunter at Papakihihau and was found with wounds evidently caused by a large knife, about 12 ) inches long and sharp pointed which was found nearby. There were wounds on the left arm. left shoulder, left side, throat and \ right cheek. Williams was about 35 years old and Capewell's age is 63. Both were . reputedly ex-seafaring men, with naval service. Capewell was arrested at eight o'clock last night and brought to Waipukurau gaol in charge of Constables R. H. Moss and D. H. Sutton, of Porangahau and Waipukurau respectively. The body of Williams was also brought to the Waipukurau morgue. The police party and Dr. C. Raymond arrived after midnight. An inquest was held this morning for the purpose of formal identification. Following a postmortem examination. Capewell will be charged with murder. He is stated to have been formerly cock at Pourere and Akitio station* and to have come from Sheffield (England). Williams was a native of Ireland.

The accused man appeared before Mr. A. C. Holms, J'.P., and was remanded to appear *it Napier on Monday next.
