Today, 8.35 a.m. Calcutta, Jan. 3. 1 The Kabul newspaper Isbah contains a photograph of a remarkable confession alleged to have ’ been made by Abdul Khaliq, who murdered the Afghan King, resulting in six- . teen executions. Khaliq, a 23-year-old student, says he was instigated to commit the murder by the wife of Ghulam Siddiq, formerly Foreign Minister in ex-King Amanullah.’s government, who is now in exile in Berlin. , : Khaliq declared that he had a devilish passion for the .woman, who provided him with money to assassinate King-Nadir Shah, expecting it to h. 3 followed by a rising throughout the country and, the re-enthronement of Amanullah with personal honours to himself. Khaliq at first hesitated, but the' woman and also the wives of the executed men taunted him with being a coward. The woman refused to love him unless he killed Nadir Shah. The confession adds: “This is the secret of a great national calamity which I must reveal as the identity oflhe woman who is at the root of all- the mischief must not remain 'undisclosed.”
