Largely-attended Funeral DEATH A NATIONAL CALAMITY MANY TRIBUTES PAID Press Association - ''■•n'jvrijrht. Melbourne Jan. 3. The State funeral of Sir Robert Gibson was the longest and most representative for many years. The burial was at thr Boxhill cemetery. The pall-bearers included Sir Harry Lawson (representing the Commonwealth Government), Mr. J. H. Scullin (Leader of the Federal Opposition), Mr. E. C. Riddle 'Governor of the Commonwealth Bank). Mr. W. A. Leitch (chairman of the Associated Banks) and Mr. T. White (Minister of Customs). Mr. Leitch, who is also general manager of the Union Bank of Australia, said Sir Robert Gibson’s death was a national calamity Sir Robert was known in London as the saviour of Australia. He preserved eauity between the Commonwealth Government, the Commonwealth Bank and the trading banks of Australia. Similar tributes were expressed by other prominent bankers and representatives of every branch of business activity .
