Clearing Ngaere Area
FIRST GANG EMPLOYED Part of an education reserve at' Ngaere, an area of 67 acres, is being .stumped and cleared by unemployed men. The first gang of six relief workers has commenced to clear blackberry and stump logs. The men are working' on contract under a scheme that was recently authorised, and when all the gangs are made up there will be 46 men 0 " The work. . The time the work will take depends on how soon the full number of men is secured. If they all begin now. they could finish in six to eight weeks, but if delay occurs in ing the full complement ten weeks might be occupied. The lessee in consideration of the work done will cede 47 acres to the Government for settlement and will obtain for himself 20 acres of excel, lent. land.
The men are married and are at present cycling to and from the work as it. is only, five miles fromj Stratford, but tents will be provided if they are wanted.
