HIGH STANDARD
I Efficiency of King's College | Cadets The high standard of efficiency and training attained by the King's College Cadet Battalion has earned for it the distinction of being the first cadet organisation in New Zealand to be the central feature of a motion picture film. The filming of the battalion was carried out at the college grounds recently, j The idea of filming the battalion on parI ade was the outcome of a casual remark i made in the course of a ceremonial par- ! ade and inspection. While being inspectj ed by Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer com- | manding the Northern Command, the I battalion was successfully put through some intricate advanced company drill ' movements. It was remarked that the j movements were worthy of being filmed, j and Colonel Duigan heartily concurred. ! He said it would be fitting were it possible to give the public some idea of the splendid work being accomplished among cadets. i<rsTh& suggestion was taken up by the Defence Force school area officer. Captain R. S. Judson, and arrangements were made i for New Zealand Sound I Scenes to film the battalion for a newsreel. The filming was directed by Mr. j R. Hayward, who is arranging to have a running commentary released with the film, which is of the "silent" type. The cadets- were filmed while carrying out rifle 'exercises, massed physical drill, platoon' and company drill and signalling.
