"When arrested he declared, "It is absolutely preposterous." .Detectives indicated more serious charges would be,, brought, against Miles, whereupon the magistrate said that there must be a heavier bail. Bail was forthcoming totalling £IO,OOO. Miles, who is 38 years of age, had a distinguished war record; he won the Military Cross, and was twice mentioned in dispatches.
