STRATFORD HOSPITAL
Extra Nurse to be Appointed DIRECTOR-GENERAL PAYS VISIT OF INSPECTION Dr. M. H. Watt, Director-General of Health ,who arrived in Stratford this morning, met Mr W. L. Kennedy (chairman), Mr T. Harry Penn (secretary) and Dr. D. Steven (medical superintendent of the Hospital Board), and went into various matters in connection with the institution, which was visited. In discussing the report of Miss Lambie, Director of the Nursing Division, who recently visited . Stratford and pointed out that extra staffing was required, it was agreed that an extra staff nurse should be pointed to relieve the overwork which pressed unduly on the matron.
When the question of expense was pointed out, Dr. Watt said that the Board had reached starvation point as far as economy was concerned, and could not go on cutting down expense at the cost of efficiency.
Dr. Watt paid a compliment to the management of the institution which, he said, was fully appreciated by the Department, and this happy state of affairs was due in no small measure to the splendid service of Dr. Steven and the matron. He was very pleased with the high standard of efficiency in the maternity ward, and spoke in complimentary terms of the appearance of the institution both inside and out.
