METHODIST TENNIS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS Official Opening Day October 5 The annual meeting of the Stratford Methodist Tonnis Club was held at the church hull last night when the Rev. T. Skuse (president) occupied the chair. The meeting was attended by a large number of members and intending' members. The annnual report, published in yesterday’s issue of the Post, was read, and in moving the adoption the president expressed satisfaction with the club’s successful activities during the past season. The report was adopted. Financial Position

The balance sheet submitted, showed receipts amounting to £34 12s 3d while the expenditure amounted to £34 3s 3d, giving a credit balance cf 9s while a further, sum of approximately £5 was outstanding in subscriptions. Taking into consideration the expenditure on repairs to the courts the financial position was considered as sound. Following a discussion dealing with members’ subscription it was decided that during the forthcoming season all uufinancial members be de-barred from play on tin courts, and that the rega’ations set up by the Tarr--'- ! Lawn Tennis Association, be strictly adherred to. Members subscriptions are to remain as last year: Ladies 20s and niren 255, while a limited time was allowed to enable members to take advantage of a discount of 2s on the annual subscription. It was resolved that Hie club place on record its appreciation of tho donation of a new tennis met, as was given by Mrs J. Fredric during the early part of the last season. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: President, Rev. T. Skuse; vice president, Mr S. Whyte; match captain and selector. Mr R. Boyd; joint secretaries Misses R. and D. PopP; treasurer. Miss B. Foster; green, warden, Mr V. Henry; Executive, Mr J. L. O. Rowe, Misses D. Ward, D. Carter, J. Foster, and E. Skuse, Messrs S. Ward. A. Vivian and 11. Skuse. The president and vice president were elected as auditors. Opening Day The official opening day of tho season was fixed for Thursday October 5, and it was decided to. hold a scries, of friendly games, members of other clubs being invited. It was also resolved that a special “feature’’ bo presented by the way of a singles match, President versus vice President. With a view to making full pnfl- - for tho opening day it was, decided to hold a working bee on Thursday, September 28. Ladder Competitions Whether new members should he listed at the foot of the competition “ladder” or whether the “ladder” should, at the beginning of the competition. bo made up of names listed by “draw” was a matter which was keenly discussed. It was considered fairer to new members to use tho “draw” system and so make the competition even throughout, while at the same time junior players would have an opportunity of bettering their play by being matched with the more skilled players. A resolution to that effect was carried. Club Shield

The Club Shield, which in previous years was awarded to the club’s best player, and, which in more recent years has not been competed for, was “ressuroctcd” and is to bo awarded to the club’s most improved player.

Honorary Members Mr Whyte pointed out that while many persons interested in the activities were unable to participate in play they were willing to lend their support, and he moved that an honorary membership be made possible, the fee being 2s Cd.
