"STRONG NATIONS HAVE FRIENDS"
Weaker Ones in Danger SPEECH BY MUSSOLINI London, Aug. 29. "Strong nations have friends far and near in peace time. In war time they are feared. Weak nations stand alone and neglected in peace time. In war time they run the risk of being crushed." This declaration was made, reports the Milan correspondent of the Times, by Signor Mussolini in a speech at Cuneo, where he met the heads of the Fascist Federations of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria. Nobody could challenge the Italian Government and the people's sincere desire for peace, said the Prime Minister, but history taught the clear lesson that it was necessary to be strong. "We must especially be strong in numbers, because if the cradles are empty the nation ages and declines," he declared. Italy faced the noontide of the 20th century as the sole nation with a doctrine of salvation and life to give to all civilised peoples on earth. "To-morrow Italy will be even stronger and greater," added Signor Mussolini, "because we will make her so."
